Abstract
767,540. Road vehicle couplings. SENTINEL (SHREWSBURY), Ltd., and HAMBLIN, L. F. Aug. 2, 1955 [July 31, 1954], No. 22416/54. Class 103(5). An arrangement for weight transference from a trailer to a tractor comprises a Y-shaped tow-bar universally jointed by pins 18, 20 and 22 to the tractor frame 23 and pivoted on a transo verse axis by a bar 24 carried in bearings in brackets 25 which together with brackets 26, 27 form part of a fitting 12 into which the trailer king-pin 13 is secured. A torque applied to the rod 24 by means of the toothed quadrant 32 secured to it is transmitted via splines 28<SP>1</SP> to a sleeve 28 to which a slipper 29 is non-rotatably secured and acts on the rollers 30 against an arcuate surface 31 secured to the trailer king-post 15. Load transference may therefore be controlled from the tractor by operation of the cable drum 41. The torque may be applied to the rod 24 by means of a lever actuated by a mechanical or electrically operated screw-and-nut mechanism. Specification 775,554 is referred to.
