Abstract

767,477. Control systems for X-ray apparatus. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. March 23, 1955 [March 26, 1954], No. 8403/55. Drawings to Specification. Class 38 (4). Control voltages representative of the selected anode voltage, discharge current and exposure time of an X-ray tube are applied to a valve which, if the selected values are such as would result in the overloading of the tube, conducts and causes operation of a relay which prevents energization of the H.T. transformer of the tube, the control voltage representative of exposure time being modified by a further voltage proportional to heat stored in the tube as the result of previous exposures. The control voltages are obtained from potentiometers connected across a D.C. source and ganged with the tube voltage, current and time selectors, respectively. The control voltage representative of exposure time is in the case of a proposed relatively long exposure, obtained from a potentiometer fed over a valve which is variably biased in accordance with the heat energy stored in the anode of the tube as the result of previous exposures: A further valve may cause operation of a second relay to deenergize the tube if the stored heat energy exceeds a predetermined figure.
