Abstract

Textile fabrics containing synthetic polyester, polyacrylic or long-chain polyamide fibres are treated at a temperature of at least 350 DEG F., but not sufficiently high to harm the fabric, with a liquid which is inert to the fabric at the treatment temperature, and the fabric is then washed to remove the liquid and dried. The liquid is non-aqueous and may be water-soluble. Ethylene glycol, diethylene glycol, glycerine, mineral oil and ethanolamines are specified. Examples refer to the treatment of fabrics composed of terephthalic acid-ethylene glycol condensation products, polyacrylonitrile and nylon at temperatures of 360 DEG to 370 DEG F. Before washing, surplus treating liquid may be removed from the fabrics. The process improves the resistance of the fabrics to abrasion.ALSO:Textile fabrics containing synthetic polyester, polyacrylic or long-chain polyamide fibres are treated at a temperature of at least 350 DEG F., but not sufficiently high to harm the fabric, with a liquid which is inert to the fabric at the treatment temperature, and the fabric is then washed to remove the liquid and dried.
