765,341. Wood preserving methods. GEWECKE, H. Oct. 2, 1953 [Oct. 2, 1952; April 24, 1953], No. 27146/53. Class 140. A process for the preservation of timber comprises making one or more elongated incisions b in the article a, placing therein a liquid or solid impregnating medium c which may contain a plurality of active agents, and sealing the incision with a rubber tape or card or a setting material d. The solid medium may be mixed with a swelling agent to form a paste which is dried on corrugated sheets, e.g. aluminium foil, or preformed into appropriately sized blocks to fit the slots. The block may consist of layers of active agents having different solubilities and diffusabilities. The liquid impregnating medium may be continuously fed into the slot from a container e by a wick or similar device f surrounded by a helix of' wire f having one end immersed in the liquid in the container and its other end passing through the sealing layer into the slot. Metal sleeves or plates may be used for extra protection. Specification 159,479, [Class 140], is referred to.
