765,184. Sound-magnifying and directing appliances. CHAVE, D. M., [trading as LOWTHER MANUFACTURING CO.]. Jan. 4, 1955 [Jan. 5, 1954], No. 277/54. Class 13. [Also in Group XXXIX] The reproduction of high frequencies is improved by the provision within the cone 21 of a loud-speaker of a fixed core member 23, the spacing of the core 23 from the cone 21 at any cross-section being less than one-ninth the outer periphery of the core member 23 at that section, and the core member 23 extending at least the whole length axially of the cone 21 and its coil 16. The loud-speaker may also have a larger cone 17. The core member 23 is preferably made of plaster of Paris. An additional highfrequency cone 36, Fig. 5, may be provided. The loud-speaker may feed into a horn 35, Fig. 4, in the conventional manner or at an angle, Fig. 6, as described in Specification 765,183, a reflecting plate 44 being then secured to the core member 23.
