Class 20(4) A roof ventilator for use on roof structures having a surface coating layer of impervious material to protect against weather, comprises a vent pipe, which extends through the coating layer, having at its outer end means to prevent direct ingress of snow and rain and which on its inner end, opens into a tent-like metal structure serving to anchor the ventilator to the coating layer and as an air and moisture collecting chamber access to which is through one or more openings in the sides thereof. As shown in Fig. 2, a load bearing surface such as concrete C is covered by a heat-insulating layer D of vermiculite, foam-slag or the like and a top layer A of asphalt or bitumen felt. The ventilator comprises a pipe K bent at its outer end L to prevent ingress of snow or rain, and opening into a funnel M having a serrated edge P to provide openings for the air or moisture. A shield F prevents ingress of water between the pipe K and the top layer A. A number of vents will normally be used, along the highest part of the roof. For roofs sloping down from one end, the pipe K similarly shaped and positioned as in Fig. 2, opens according to Fig. 3 (not shown) into a triangular sectioned metal plate to be positioned up against the end wall. As shown in Fig. 4, the'pipe K is carried by one side S of a plate having side plates S<SP>1</SP> S<SP>2</SP> forming a tent-structure, the plates S<SP>1</SP>, S<SP>2</SP> having edge fillets T by which they may be secured to a flat surface.
