764,926. Lathe details. CICCARELLI, D. P. Nov. 9, 1954 [Nov. 10, 1953], No. 32340/54. Class 83 (3). An attachment for cutting screw-threads on a lathe comprises cam-operated feed-and-relief mechanism in combination with a compound slide for supporting a threading tool, the combination being. adapted for mounting on the normal cross-slide and including gearing driven by a telescopic shaft from the lathe feed-shaft. The attachment is secured on the lathe crossslide and driven from the rear end of the feedshaft 1, Fig. 2, by gearing 2 and a telescopic shaft 3 with one or more universal joints. The shaft 3 drives a worm 6, Fig. 3, and a worm-wheel 7. Secured to the vertical spindle of the wormwheel are two cams 11, 12, the latter being outside the casing of the attachment for ready replacement. This can controls the pitch of the screw being cut, and through a follower 20, moves the lower member of a compound-slide for a thread-cutting tool. The upper transverse-slide is controlled by the cam 11 which, at the end of the working stroke, operates a lever 14 to withdraw the tool, returning it again to the original position when the lower slide is returned for a fresh cut. Both slides are returned by springs and increases in cut are obtained by hand adjustment.
