Abstract
764,648. Feeding sheets. DEXTER FOLDER CO. Feb. 10, 1955 [May 10, 1954], No. :3993/55. Class 100(1) Sheet-separators:-In apparatus for lifting sheets sequentially from a pile 11 and tautening the edge of each sheet during the lifting thereof, the hollow air tube 34 carrying each sucker 38 is bent at 37 and reciprocates between guide rollers 40, 41 whereby the sucker is moved transversely of the pile flug up the top sheet 33 into There are two suction separators, one over each rear corner of the pile, and each is mounted on two side plates 12, 13 mounted for adjustment transversely of the piles on cross shafts 18, 19 which are mounted for adjustment longitudinally of the pile in side frames. Compressed air from two tubes 29, 30 arranged near each rear corner of the pile fluff up the top sheet 33 into contact with the suckers 38 which then rise to lift the sheet to a position where it is then taken by sheet-forwarding devices. The air tubes 29, 30 communicate through a Y-elbow 26 with a'tube 22 which passes through a hole in a portion 21 of a block 14 which spaces the side plates 12. 13. The tube 22 can be adjusted vertically with respect to the top of the pile 11 by screwmeans 25 and clamp 23; but is free to slide upwardly. The sucker 38 may be of the type which, when sealed by a sheet, is automatically flexed upwardly a short distance relative to the carrier tube 34, or it may be of known cylinder and piston type. Of the two opposed guide rollers 40, 41 for the tube 34, the roller 40 is shown as mounted in fixed bearings and the roller 41 is carried by pivoted links 45 and urged towards the roller 40 by springs; thus the sucker is urged resiliently to stretch a sheet. In a modification, the fixed roller may be on the, opposite side, and the sucker is thus forced outwardly non- resiliently. Each sucker tube 34 is lifted, against the action of a spring 61, by a cam 59 which co-operates with a follower on pivoted lever 56, the free end of which has pivoted thereto a link 54. The link 54 is pivoted on a pin carried by a collar 52 secured to the tube 34. The collar 52 engages a stop block 69 which thus limits the downward movement of the sucker 38. The block 69 is secured between two arms 67 pivoted on a fixed stud 68 at one end, and pivoted at the opposite ends to a screw-threaded rod 72 which can be adjusted vertically by a screw 73 even when the separator is operating. In a modification, the arms 67 carry a spring- urged pawl which engages the teeth of a fixed arcuate rack. Specifications 582,078 and 760,891 are referred to.
