764,622. Jointing. SVENSKA METALOCK AKTIEBOLAG. Dec. 6, 1954 [Dec. 7, 1953], No. 35304/54. Class 83 (4). A cracked or fractured metal article such, for example, as a casting 2, 3 is repaired by forming in the article, across the crack or fracture 1, a parallel-sided recess having an overall depth greater than its width and inserting therein a close-fitting complementary locking plate 4, the sides of the recess and the plate having complementary grooves co-operating to form a series of spaced holes 10 into which metal pins are driven or screwed to lock the plate in position. The invention is stated to be particularly applicable when the crack 1 is located at a corner as shown. The bottom of the recess is formed with two sides 5 and 6 spaced from and parallel to the outer sides at the corner and the top edge 9 of the plate may be shaped to the inner surface of the casting as shown or left straight to form a web across the corner. If the crack extends inwardly from the outside of the corner the recess is formed from the outside of the corner and has a bottom with sides spaced from and parallel to the inner sides of the corner. A number of locking plates 4 may be used at spaced intervals along the crack.
