Classes 123(2) and 123(3) In a steam generator in which the steam is purified by contact with its own condensate in apparatus disposed in the steam and water drum 10, the steam, containing entrained water, flows from the generating tubes 24 through a passage 27 into a trough 15 disposed longitudinally at one side of the drum 10, a feedwater inlet header 21 being positioned in the trough and supplying a series of vertical, finned tube condensers 22, the central tube 23 of each condenser being bent over to deliver the feedwater below the surface of the water in the drum. Part of the steam condenses in contact with the condensers 22, the condensate, with entrained impurities, draining to the bottom of trough 15 and flowing down through pipes 18 which extend coaxially for a short distance within downcomers 17, the ejector effect of the water flow in the downcomers increasing the flow rate in the drain tubes. Steam passes upwardly through driers 28 to the stream outlet pipes 25.
