A device for making guide-marks on dressmaking materials comprising a pair of tongs with chalk-holders 5, Fig. 1, detachably mounted on its limbs 1, 2 by means of plate springs 8, each holder passing through a hole in the middle part of a spring and being firmly held between the overlapping ends of the spring. In use, the limbs 1, 2 are pressed together so that the chalk-holders 5 are displaced axially and are rotated due to the engagement of projections on the springs 8 with holes 13 in the holders.
