[Also in Group XVIII] A door for closing autoclaves and the like comprises a plurality of locking bolts c movable radially outward into locking position, an hydraulic ram i<SP>1</SP> for each bolt, and a central chamber l to which high pressure liquid may be admitted to operate the rams to move the bolts outwardly to lock and hold the door in position. Each ram i<SP>1</SP> is secured to or formed with the shank c<SP>1</SP> of its bolt and each is mounted in an hydraulic cylinder i, each cylinder being pivotally mounted upon the door by means of angle brackets h and connected to the central chamber l by a pipe k. In the construction shown, the rams i<SP>1</SP> are double-acting so that the bolts are both shot and withdrawn by hydraulic pressure and each cylinder is therefore connected by a pipe k<SP>1</SP> to a second central chamber l<SP>1</SP>. The central chambers are mounted on the door together with a reservoir n and a pump m. The admission of liquid from the chambers to the cylinders and the exhaustion of the liquid from the cylinders to the reservoir are controlled by a three-way valve o, in the neutral position of which all connections to the cylinders are cut off while in the other two positions the chambers l, l<SP>1</SP> are respectively connected to the hydraulic cylinders to move the bolts to locking position and to withdraw them respectively. The pump is operated by a handle p. The bolts are tapered and engage tapering sockets b in a ring a so that an annular rib f<SP>1</SP> on the door is pressed tightly against packing e in an annular channel to provide a tight seal. The pump m and valve o are carried in a unit r which may be withdrawn as a whole for inspection or repair. In a modification single-acting rams may be used instead of double-acting rams, the return of the rams and bolts being effected by springs.
