Abstract

Compounds of the general formula H(CF2.CF2)x (CH2)y.ZM, where x is not less than 2 and preferably is 2 to 15, y is 1 to 3, Z is -SO3- or -OSO3-, and M is a cation such as H, Na, K, Li, NH4, Ca, Sr, Mg, Fe+++, Cr+++, Al, Zn, Ni, Cu and pyridinium, used to reduce the formation of chromic acid mist and spray in chromic acid chromium electroplating baths, are produced from the 1 : 1-dihydrohalides or alcohols prepared by telomerization of tetrafluoroethylene and methyl chloride or methyl alcohol in the manner described in U.S.A. Specifications 2,559,628 and 2,559,629.
