762,568. Rotary printing machines. MASCHINENFABRIK AUGSBURG-NURNBERG AKT.-GES. Dec. 22, 1954, [Feb. 19, 1954], No. 37067/54. Class 100(2) Adjustments for register:-In a rotary printing press lateral register adjustment is effected by simultaneous axial displacement of the plate cylinder and the cylinder co-operating therewith and circumferential adjustment is effected by simultaneous angular displacement of these cylinders in opposite directions. In the case of an offset machine the plate and offset cylinders are moved relative to the impression cylinder, while in the case of other machines the plate and impression cylinders are moved together the invention is shown applied to an offset machine. Axial adjustments:-The lateral adjustment is made by rotation of bushes 11, 20 threadedly engaged in the wall of a casing 14. The ends of the shafts of the plate cylinder 3 and offset cylinder 2 are held axially in bearings in these bushes 11, 20 and are slidable in bearing in the side frames 4, 5. The bushes carry equal gears 17, 19 and are connected by gear 18. As bush 11 is rotated by handle 10 to shift cylinder 3 axially the bush 20 is similarly rotated and gives to cylinder 2 an identical axial shift. Circumferential adjustment:-The offset cylinder 2 is driven from the impression cylinder by means of helically toothed gears 6, 7. Gear 7 is mounted on a sleeve 23 axially slidable but not rotatable on the shaft of the offset cylinder. Axial movement of gear 7 causes a circumferential adjustment of the offset cylinder relative to the impression cylinder 1. Gears 8, 9 connect the offset and plate cylinders so that there is no relative adjustment between them when gear 7 is displaced. A lever 26 is rotatably engaged at one end with the end of the axially slidable sleeve 23 and at the other is connected by a screwed rod 27 with a hand wheel 29 on the same side of the machine frame as handle 10. Rotation of this hand wheel effects the circumferential adjustment.
