Abstract
762,526. Sawtooth and pulse transistor circuits. MULLARD RADIO VALVE CO., Ltd., March 29, 1955 [April 23, 1954], No. 11832/54. Class 40(6) In a circuit having a capacitor connected between the collector circuit and the base of a first transistor to provide negative feed back of the Miller type, a second and third transistor are arranged in a trigger circuit including the capacitor, the second transistor also being included in the collector circuit of the first to interrupt the negative feed back in response to a signal applied to the base. Assuming transistor 2 to commence conduction, the potential at A rises applying over the Miller capacitor 5 a potential rise to the base of transistor 3, the diode 6 preventing transistor 3 from being completely cut off. The fall in potential of the collector of transistor 3, curve C, is fed over coupling capacitor 4 and resistor 7 to the base of transistor 2, curve D to complete a positive feed back loop so that transistor 2 is held in saturation. During the forward stroke the current passed by the emitter of transistor 3 increases, the potential rising curve B and the current through transistor 1 also rising correspondingly. At the end of the forward stroke, transistor 1 bottoms with the result that the collector of transistor 2 cannot rise further in potential. The base of transistor 3 therefore commences to fall and due to the positive feed-back loop transistor 2 cuts off as the potential of point A falls, and the base, curve D, rises. The circuit remains in this condition until the charge on capacitor 4 has changed sufficiently for transistor 2 to conduct again and the cycle repeats. The R.C. coupling 4, 7 may be replaced by D.C. coupling so that the circuit has a single stable stage and when triggered passes through a cycle and back to its original state. A sawtooth output may be derived from the join of transistors 1, 2 at the point E.
