Abstract

761,983. Transformers. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. July 20, 1954 [July 20, 1953], No. 20054/53. Class 38 (2). On load tap-changing equipment comprising sequentially operated diverter switches D1, D2 associated with bridging reactors or resistors, is so connected to the tapped transformer winding that a winding or part A of a winding linked with the main flux of turns value less than (preferably half) that of the winding part between adjacent taps, is alternately inserted in and removed from the circuit while the transformer ratio is progressively increased or decreased during the tap-changing process. The first five diagrams of Fig. 4 ((Part), show the sequence of operation of the diverter switches in the position in which both selector switches S1, S2 are on the lowest tap and the winding A is cut out, while the next diagram shows the first step of the sequence in which the selector switches are moved to the next main tap and the winding A is re-inserted. By this arrangement the number of leads for a given number of ratio change positions is reduced. Various other ways of connecting the winding A in the circuit are described, and the invention may be applied to autotransformers.
