Abstract

761,784. Extruding rubber tyre treads &c. JOHN BULL RUBBER CO., Ltd. Dec. 17, 1954 [Dec. 18, 1953], No. 35237/53. Class 87(2). Rubber is extruded through a die to form a flat tyre tread strip, or a flat tyre-tread-plusside-wall-portion strip, and this strip is trimmed to width as it issues from the die aperture. As shown the trimming means comprise two knives 13 which cut off the sides of a strip emerging from die aperture 6. Each knife is secured by screws to a clamp 12 that embraces a transverse bar 11, the clamp being secured to the bar by a screw 15 which may be loosened to adjust the clamp lengthwise of the bar. The die aperture is formed between the upper edge 2<SP>1</SP> of the die mouth 2 and a replaceable plate 3. The plate 3 is held in position by a wedge 4 received in a groove 5 in die head 1, and by fingers 9 formed on a vertically-movable plunger 8, this plunger bearing against a thrust plate 7 secured to the die head.
