761,455. Casting-processes. JUNGHANS, S. Aug. 25, 1953 [Aug. 27, 1952], No. 23484/53. Drawings to Specification. Class 83 (1). In a casting process the melt during its solidification, and for the purpose of influencing the crystallization procedure, is subjected to the action of rotating magnetic fields whose duration of action is short as compared with the solidification time, being less than 5 per cent thereof and not directly at the end thereof. Preferably the magnetic fields are interrupted during the period in which they act and their direction is reversed after each rotation. The process is stated to reduce the formation of weakening zones poor in sulphur when casting iron alloys and is applied to continuous casting.
