Abstract
761,150. Altering physical structure. LASALLE STEEL CO. Dec. 21, 1953, No. 35552/53. Class 83 (4). Working at specified temperatures.-A method of treating steel of the non-austenitic type having a pearlitic structure in a matrix of free ferrite and having a carbon content within the range of 0.10 to 0.50 per cent comprises working the steel so that its crosssectional area is reduced, e.g. by drawing through a die, at a temperature within the range of 350‹ to 850‹ F., whereby the physical and mechanical properties of the steel are improved by precipitation hardening. The steel is preferably non-resulphurized low-sulphur steels having 0.10 to 0.25 per cent carbon and is drawn at a temperature within the above range at a draft of 19 per cent. Specification 644,598 is referred to.
