Abstract

760,872. Pianofortes. RENN, A., and RENN, B. D. July 29, 1953 [Aug. 23, 1954]. No. 24459/54. Class 88 (2). Each layer of a laminated wooden pianoforte soundboard comprises narrow strips such as 12 arranged edge to edge and the strips 10, 11 and 12 of adjacent layers run in perpendicular directions. The whole assembly is secured with a thermosetting synthetic resin in a combined pressing and heating operation. The soundboard is bucked at the same time. The soundboard is reinforced either with the usual ribs or with additional layers 13, 14, 15 which do not cover the whole soundboard. The reinforcing layers are progressively narrower so as to form a diagonal ridge across the soundboard. The reinforcing layers may also be formed of strips.
