Abstract

760,478. Ironing-boards. FRAMPTON, K. P. July 23, 1954 [April 24, 1953], No. 11442/53. Class 138 (2). An ironing-board having a main board and a sleeve board standing on foldable legs on the main board is characterized in that one of the legs of the sleeve board is pivotally connected to a member secured to the main board such that when the sleeve board is standing on the main board the pivot axis is horizontally on or above the top surface of the main board or in a recess in that surface so that the sleeve board may be swung upwardly away from the main board. In Fig. 1, the sleeve board 20 has folding legs 21, the ends of one pair of legs being pivoted on a bar 18 projecting horizontally from the head of a G-cramp 12 fastened to the side of the main board 10. The legs of each pair may be separate or comprise a U- shaped frame. To clear the main board 10 the sleeve board 20 may be tipped backwards or slid off the bar 18. The bar 18 may lie in a recess in the main board, the folding legs being shaped such that when folded the sleeve board lies flat on the main board while still attached to the bar 18. The bar may be secured to the legs of the sleeve board and be axially removable from bearings fixed on the main board. In Fig. 3, one pair of legs 41 of the sleeve board is pivoted to a link 44 attached to a bracket 45 below the main board and a catch (not shown) is provided to hold the sleeve board when it is swung under the main board and out of use.
