Abstract
760,412. Motor wheels. WESSEX INDUSTRIES (POOLE), Ltd., and WRIGLEY, A. Dec. 30, 1954 [Jan. 15, 1954], No. 1276/54. Class 79(3). [Also in Group XXXII] A motor vehicle, in which a wheel carrying member 10 is movable about a vertical axis to steer the vehicle, has a power unit (shown as an internal combustion engine 21) which is mounted on the wheel-carrying member 10 and is drivably connected to the wheel 19, the wheel-carrying member 10 being pivotally mounted at two spaced points in a frame 11 of the vehicle one of the points being above the power unit 21 and the other of the points being within the wheel 19. The pivotal connexion above the power unit 21 comprises a spindle 12 mounted in the frame 11, a rubber bush 18 being provided to act as a shock absorber. The lower pivotal connection comprises a pin 14 the bifurcated end 15 of which engages the end of a leaf spring 16 attached to the frame 11. The member 10 may be suspended from the frame 11 by means of upper and lower wishbone links with a coil spring mounted therebetween ; the upper link incorporating a shock absorber. The spindle 12 may be hollow and provide a passage for the engine controls.
