Apparatus for removing sheets in succession from a pack comprises a rotor which carries a suction nozzle and is mounted rotatably on a carrier, means for rotating the rotor to move the nozzle around an orbit, and means for moving the carrier bodily whereby the nozzle is given a reversed movement relative to the pack while it is disposed in a position where it receives a sheet from the pack. Pile supports.-A pack of labels or sheets 21 is contained in a magazine 19, Fig. 2, of oval cross-section, and is pressed to the left by a weight mounted on wheels, so that the front sheet is held against abutments comprising a roller 24 and flanges 25, 72. Sheet separators and forwarders.-The sheets are withdrawn in turn by three suction nozzles 56, Fig. 2, rotating in an orbit such that a point 68 on one of them follows counter-clockwise the path shown in dot-and-dash line. At the point 69 the upper part of the front sheet is held by a nozzle, moved downwardly to clear the flange 25, and then upwardly to clear the roller 24. The sheet is then carried round until at the lowest part of the orbit the suction is released or compressed air is applied and the sheet is dropped into one of a series of jars being fed on a conveyer. The nozzles 56 are surrounded by sleeves 58, Figs. 3 and 4, of rubber or like material having poor electrostatic properties, and have nozzle orifices 57. The nozzles are carried on a rotor member 54 mounted on a spindle 51 carrying a gear 49, and the spindle is supported within a cylindrical valve block 38 carried on the lower end of an arm 16 supported by a head 33 on a fulcrum 17. The spindle 51 also supports an arm 40 having a crank pin 41. The pin 41 is secured to a disc 42 rotated by a source of power through a shaft 26, sprocket 27, chain 28 and sprocket 29 so as to oscillate the arm 16. The pin 41 carries a pinion 48 meshing with the gear 49 so as to rotate the nozzles. These two motions produce the cusped path shown. A source of vacuum is connected at 36 to the bore 34 of the fulcrum 17, and thence by the interior of the arm 16 to the valve block 38. Ports 60, 61 are arranged to maintain each nozzle connected to the vacuum during most of its revolution and connected to atmosphere during a small period beginning at the bottom of the orbit. In another form, Fig. 8, the arm 16 is replaced by a member comprising two tubes 78, 79 connected respectively to passages 80, 85 and sources of vacuum and compressed air, and to the vacuum port 60 and a port 92. The tubes 78, 79 are held together by a spring 95 and flexible straps 96, 97, so as to keep nipples 82, 83, 88, 89 pressed into their sockets, and a plate 99 bifurcated at each end and carried by a rod 98 secured to the head 33 keeps the tubes in their correct relationship to the head.
