Abstract

759,124. Agglomerating ores. CABOT, Inc., G. L. Nov. 11, 1954 [Jan. 12, 1954], No. 32622/54. Class 82(1). [Also in Group V] In making pellets from finely divided material, such as carbon black or metal oxides, by passing it down a rotating drum, means are provided within the drum to scoop up pellets at the outlet end and feed them back to the inlet end, so as to provide nuclei for pelletization. As shown, the material is introduced through a shoot 26 to a cylindrical drum 10 which is rotated about its longitudinal axis by rubber wheels 12, so that the material agglomerates as it travels through the drum. When the pellets near the outlet end have reached a certain depth they are picked up by a scoop 24 depending from an archimedean screw, comprising a continuous helix 22 within a cylinder 20 which carries them back to the inlet side of the drum for recycling. To prevent the material sticking to the wall of the drum 10, hammers may be attached to the outside or internal scrapers may be used. The pellets are expelled through a discharge tube 28.
