Abstract

The invention comprises compounds of formula <FORM:0758744/IV(c)/1> where X is H, a monovalent metal or a basic radical of a polyvalent metal of formula Me(OH)m wherein Me is the metal and m is its valency minus 1. They are used in the treatment of leprosy and tuberculosis. They are prepared by diazotizing 4:41 - diamino - diphenyl - sulphone, coupling the tetrazo compound in alkaline solution with thymol and if desired, salifying the phenolic groups. In examples (1) 4:41-diamino-diphenyl-sulphone is suspended in aqueous hydrochloric acid, sodium nitrite is added and the resultant clear solution of tetrazo compound is added to a solution of thymol in caustic soda, the 4:41-bis (211methyl-411-hydroxy-511-isopropylphenylazo) diphenyl-sulphone being precipitated by the addition of nitric acid (2) the diargentic derivative of the compound from (1) is prepared by reacting the sodium salt thereof with silver nitrate, and a basic bismuth derivative, wherein the X groups of the formula are Bi (OH)2 groups, is obtained by a similar reaction using a solution of bismuth nitrate containing glycerine.
