A. yielding supporting arch structure for mines comprises an I-section roof arch portion 1, Fig. 1, to the ends of which side arch portions 2 are frictionally and yieldingly connected, each side arch portion being formed by two U-sections pressed into the I-section roof arch portion by means of a clamp 4 surrounding the I-section, the flanges of the two U-sections being pressed into the I-section to an extent sufficient to produce deformation of said flanges. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 2 the two U-sections 2 are placed back-to-back, but in Fig. 3 (not shown) the webs of the U-sections 2 are directed outwardly.
