A grooved drum for quick traverse mechanisms for winding frames is characterized in that the flank of the groove 4 leading the yarn to the base of the groove is provided with a plurality of radial ribs 8. Apertures 5, 6 of greater width than the groove 4 and leading into the interior of the drum, are provided so that a hook may be inserted to remove yarn tangled in the groove. The apertures 5, 6 which may merge with the thread catch incision 7, also permit dust &c. to find its way into the drum interior where the inclined web in which the groove 4 is formed, or a number of spokes, act fan-like to expel the dust &c. from the end of the drum.
