Abstract

757,325. Feeding webs. MUIRHEAD & CO., Ltd. Feb. 10, 1954 [March 5, 1953], No. 6170/53. Class 100 (1). A paper roll holder, for use in instruments where a recording, e.g. printing or similar process, is made on a roll of paper, comprises a pair of pivotally mounted swinging end brackets for holding the roll, the brackets being spring- urged inwardly towards each other and means engaging the two brackets for controlling their inward movement in a desired relation to each other. As shown, a roll is adapted to be supported between spigots 5 and 5a pivotally mounted on swinging brackets 6 and 6a. Arms 9 and 9a, fixed to each bracket, engage rollers 10 and 10a on levers 11 and 11a. The lever 11a is fixed to shaft 12 rotated by a torsion spring 14, such that the brackets 6 and 6a are urged together against the action of springs 16 and 16a. The lever 11 is rotatable on the shaft 12 and engages a lever 18 fixed on the shaft 12 and carrying an adjusting screw 17 engaging the lever 11; the adjusting screw 17 adjusts the lateral position of the roll. The roll holder positions rolls of varying widths centrally with respect to a given point when the arms 9 and 9a have equal length, but by varying their effective lengths the roll may be supported non- centrally.
