Abstract
755,934. Maps. WILLIAMS, S. E. Feb. 1, 1954 [Jan. 30, 1953], No. 2790/53. Class 146(2) A cabinet for showing a map, chart, or the like has a pin-pointing device comprising a pair of movable rods 17 each mounted for movement in a direction perpendicular to its length and a carrier 20 mounted at the intersection so as to be freely slidable on both rods 17. The carrier 20 may have a lamp for illuminating a part of the map or an electro or permanent-magnet for attracting an indicator sliding on the front of the map. Movement of the rods 17 is effected by carriages 15 sliding on rails 12, 14 and operated by endless cords 18, 19 driven by hand-wheels 10, 11 until cross wires or pointers, one to each pair of carriages 15 and which project through slots to the front of the cabinet, are at the required register on scales formed along the edges of the map. In a modification, each rod 17 is mounted on one carriage threaded on leadscrews driven by gearing from the hand wheels. The other end of each rod is guided by a taut wire. The map may be surrounded by illuminated advertizing space.
