Abstract
755,757. Electrostatic precipitation. LODGECOTTRELL, Ltd. Dec. 16, 1954 [March 15, 1954], No. 7498/54. Drawings to Specification. Class 39 (1). The treater shell of an electrostatic precipitator for the treatment of gases under pressure is made ovoid in cross-section transverse to its longitudinal axis in order to withstand the pressure of the gases, and is provided with a gulley at the bottom for removing the precipitated sludge, the shell and pulley being closed to the atmosphere. Water is fed to the treater shell through a series of sprays arranged in the gulley, in the side walls of the shell and in the top of the treater, at least one such spray in each location being provided for each bank of electrodes of the precipitator. The gulley is provided with a false bottom sloping downwardly from the outlet to the inlet end of the treater shell, to ensure that the sludge flows in the direction of increasing deposition. The sludge is removed by a motor-driven pump or pumps, the operation of which is controlled by liquid level control means in a chamber arranged in communication with the interior of the treater shell, and is pumped to a launder whence it passes to clarifying plant. The treater shell is purged of air and gases by purge pipes, of which at least one is arranged towards the bottom of the shell adjacent the gulley, and at least one is arranged at the top of the shell.
