Abstract

755,748. Draughting Instruments. DARGUE, E. L. Feb. 1, 1955 [Feb. 4, 1954], No. 3301/54. Class 97 (3). In a protractor head having a slide portion provided with bearings for engagement with a straight edge, one bearing at least is mounted on an adjustable member resiliently urged into one of a series of positions where it is releasably locked to the protractor head. As shown, the protractor head has a slide 5 mounted on a straight edge 3 mounted for parallel movement on a drawing board 1. Slide 5 has two bearing pads 7 engaging one edge of straight edge 3, and one or more bowed leaf springs 9 engaging the other edge carried on a member 23 adjustable on slide 5 to allow the head to be used with straight edges 3 of different widths. Member 23 is supported on screws 21 extending through slots 19 in the body of the slide, springs encircling the screws beneath their heads holding member 23 against the rear surface of the slide. Holes 27 in the slide 5 receive locating pins on member 23 which may thus be held in one of a number of positions. Two graduated arms 17 fixed at right-angles are pivoted at 16 to slide 5, and clamped in position by a nut 15 on a screw 12 extending from an arm 17 through an arcuate slot 11 in slide 5. The arms may be set to a desired angle by means of a scale on the semicircular edge of slide 5.
