Abstract
755,188. Hypodermic syringes. BERTHIOT M. Oct. 6, 1954 [Oct. 14, 1953], No. 28833/54. Class 81(2). For convenience during storage the needle of a hypodermic syringe and its protective sheath are telescoped within the barrel of the syringe. The needle 10 is normally surrounded by a protective tube 15 which flits over a boss 14 formed on the head 11 of the needle and is a sliding fit in a needle carrier 3 secured in the end of the barrel. When the syringe is required for use the piston 17 is used to force the needle and its protective tube outwards, until a tapered head 12 is held in a correspondingly shaped hole 13 in the holder 3, and the tube 15 is then removed. A longitudinally split slide 18, engaging around the needle assembly, is provided to lock the needle in its two positions, initially by engaging in a recess 16 in the tube 15 and, in the operative position, by engaging a recess 20 in the needle head.
