Abstract
<PICT:0755158/IV(a)/1> <PICT:0755158/IV(a)/2> <PICT:0755158/IV(a)/3> <PICT:0755158/IV(a)/4> <PICT:0755158/IV(a)/5> <PICT:0755158/IV(a)/6> <PICT:0755158/IV(a)/7> In the melt-spinning of organic polycondensates, the material is melted on a grid having heating surfaces which project into the melting chamber and whose height is a multiple of its mean width. This may be effected by adding fins to existing heating elements so that they project into the melting chamber and increase the melting area, e.g. as shown in Fig. 1, in which a tubular heating element 2 through which heating fluid circulates has fins 3 projecting into the melting chamber 1. Examples include single or double spiral heating elements of oval cross-section, Fig. 7, parallel elements of trapezoidal, oval or T-shaped cross-section, Figs. 3, 13, 15, and a cylindrical heating element with funnel-shaped apertures through which the molten material passes as shown in cross-section in Fig. 11 and plan in Fig. 12.
