Abstract
755,142. Spiral Springs. KODAK, Ltd. May 10, 1954 [May 11, 1953], No. 13522/54. Class 108 (3). [Also in Group XXVI] The spring 20 shown in Fig. 4 applied to a motion-picture camera is of the type having constant force characteristics which exerts a predetermined diminishing torque. The spring is a tight coil of resilient metallic band which is progressively unwound throughout the range of action. The material of the band is prestressed in manufacture so that it possesses a strong natural curvature and force must be exerted to straighten it. Throughout its entire length, the spring is so highly pre-stressed that when it forms a natural coil, the turns lie tightly upon each other and the resultant coil is virtually solid. In use in the camera the spring in its natural coil is wound upon a drum 21. Energy is stored in the spring by winding it on to a drum 23.
