882,981. Metering record tapes. PHILIPS ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. Feb. 6, 1958, [Feb. 9 1957], No. 3916/58. Class 40 (2). A light beam, directed from a lamp 1 by a cylindrical lens 13, fills the space between the cheeks of a record tape take-up spool 2 over a cylindrical sector defined by the core and rim radii of the spool. An ellipsoidal mirror 11 forms an image of the lamp at a point 12 above the mirror. A translucent scale (Figs. 1, 3, not shown) intercepts the beam and indicates by the edge 14 of the shadow cast, the amount of tape 3 built up on the spool.
