753,772. Rotary pumps. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. May 19, 1954 [Sept. 21, 1953], No. 14721/54. Class 110(2) A pump of the meshing screw type has each helical thread of the male rotor 2a formed of three main arcs, a leading convex flank I the part Ia of which is an arc of a circle, a trailing flank II which is less convex than the flank I and a middle arc III the purpose of which is to give a better sealing and the length of which is 0.7 to 1 times the length of the arc IV of a thread of the female rotor 3a. Each arc III may have inserted strips 18 of abradable synthetic material (e.g. artificial resin, Neopren) or soft metal running longitudinally along the thread or may have grooves 20 similarly situated which are preferably discontinuous as in Fig. 8 to prevent leakage along them. Each arc III may be covered with a layer of soft metal and the surface of this layer is preferably pitted as at 23 in Fig. 6 to reduce friction between a thread and the casing if they touch. The arcs IV of the female rotor 3a may be similarly treated and the edges 17 may be rounded. The rotors being geared together run with small clearances and in spaced relation and may have equal or unequal numbers of threads. The inlet and outlet ports are trapezium shaped.
