Abstract
753,483. Liquid fuel burners. PETROVITCH, L., and PETROVITCH, S. June 15, 1953 [June 16, 1952; March 27, 1953], No. 16474/53. Class 75(1). An oil burner heating device in which the oil is atomized by steam generated by the heat of the burner comprises a steam generator having a generating chamber 2 supplied with water from a reservoir 3, the flow of water being con. trolled by a constant level feed tank 5, and an oil burner 9 supplied from a fuel reservoir 7, the generating chamber having pipe connections 11, 13 to the water reservoir 3 and the feed tank 5. The burner 9 comprises a nozzle located centrally in the generating chamber and the steam therefrom passes through a pipe 15 to an annular chamber 14 surrounding the fuel nozzle. The generating chamber 2 has an extension 10 on which a pressure release valve 16 is mounted and the excess steam passing through the valve is carried by a pipe 17 to an outer open-ended annular chamber 18 surrounding the annular steam chamber 14. The pipe 11 carrying the steam to the water reservoir 3 includes an automatic air intake valve 12 which is mounted either on the water reservoir 3, Fig. 1, or on the extension 10, Fig. 2, and which opens when the pressure in the pipe is below atmospheric. A branch 11a of the pipe 11 may lead to the fuel reservoir 7. The fuel supply to the burner is controlled by a valve 31 and by a cock 26 con. trolled automatically by a device 28 actuated by the pressure of steam in a water boiler 1 surrounding the heating device. In the event of flame failure the oil collects in a cup 19 located below the burner and overflows therefrom into a receptacle 24 which operates a weight device 25 adapted to close simultane. ously two cocks 21, 22 controlling the fuel and water supplies. At starting oil is burned in the cup 19. The constant level feed tank is connected by a pipe 6 to the generating chamber and contains a float 5b operating a valve 5c. In the modification shown in Fig. 2 the float 5b operates a valve 5d above the feed tank and the water flows through a pipe 6a to the generating chamber, the other pipe 6b between generating chamber and feed tank serving to maintain the water level and as a feed pipe should the pipe 6a become blocked. In a further modification the burner is located below the generating chamber in the cup 19 and the fuel feed is controlled by a constant level tank.
