Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, March 21, 1932]. [Class 51 (i).] In a liquid-fuel water-heating furnace 11 having a refractory combustion bed 12 on to which a mixture of fuel and air is directed from a burner 14 at a velocity exceeding that of the propagation of the flame, the fuel and air are supplied in proper proportions for complete combustion by a single blower 15 having an outlet pipe 16 delivering air to the burner and a branch 27 which serves to apply the air pressure to the reservoir 23 and thus force fuel along the pipe 24 to the burner jet 25. The latter is disposed at a slightly higher level than the normal level in the reservoir so that the fuel supply ceases on stopping the blower. The blower is driven by an electric motor 20 which also operates a pump 21 serving to supply fuel from the main tank 22 to the reservoir 23. For heating up the refractory bed 12, there is provided an auxiliary burner 30 fitted with an igniter 36 and supplied with fuel and air through branches 31, 33 from the pipes 16, 24 feeding the main burner. Valves 32, 34 in the branches 31, 33 are connected to be operated simultaneously by an electromagnet 35 which, together with the igniting device 36 and the motor 20, is controlled by an apparatus 38 in conjunction with a thermostat 39 and a flameresponsive safety relay 40. A valve 19 in the inlet 17 to the blower is connected to a crank 43 driven at a very low speed by a small electric motor disposed within the control apparatus 38, the direction of rotation of this motor being controlled by the thermostat 39 so that the supply of fuel and air is increased or decreased as the temperature falls below or rises above a predetermined value.
