Abstract

Ethylene and/or propylene, with or without other monomers, is/are polymerized by the process described in Specification 748,583, except that a hydride of beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium, or barium is used instead of an alkali metal hydride. The examples illustrate the addition of 3-ethyl-2-pentene and propylene during the polymerization and a further example describes hydrogenation of a polyethylene. U.S.A. Specifications 2,320,147, 2,357,332 and 2,388,536 also are referred to.ALSO:Ethylene and/or propylene, with or without other monomers, is/are catalytically polymerized (see Group IV(a)) by the process of Specification 748,583, except that a hydride of beryllium, magnesium, calcium, strontium or barium is used instead of the alkali metal hydride. U.S.A. Specifications 2,320,147, 2,388,536 and 2,357,332 also are referred to.
