Abstract

A damping fluid comprises 5 to 40 per cent (by weight) of a liquid polyalkylene glycol or a liquid mono-alkyl ether thereof, having a viscosity of at least 200 cs. at 25 DEG C., and 95 to 60 per cent of a benzene-soluble organopolysiloxane which is a methylpolysiloxane, phenylmethylpolysiloxane, or a mixture or copolymer thereof, having a viscosity of at least 10,000 cs. at 25 DEG C. and an average of at least 2.0 organic radicals per Si atom. The fluids may also contain dispersing agents, e.g. 1 per cent of a barium alkylaryl sulphonate. There are specified ethylene, propylene, butylene and octadecylene glycols, copolymers of ethylene and propylene glycols, ethylene and butylene glycols and butylene and octadecylene glycols, and ethylene glycol monobutyl-, ethyleneglycol monopropyl-, octadecyleneglycol monoethyland octadecyleneglycol monobutyl-ethers. Examples are given.
