Altiniinitunstilfat, Kupfervitriol u. dgl., ver-
wenden.
Die erfindungsgemäß anzuwendenden Men-
gen an Säuren oller sauer wirkenden Sub-
stanzen liegen weit unter den bisher ange-
wandten Mengen. Wenngleich in Anbetracht

Die erhaltenen Produkte können technisch vielseitig angewendet «-erden;
in Frage.
6o ccin n-Natronlauge neutral gestellt.
liegt bei 1q.2°.The products obtained can be used in many technical ways; they can be used, for example, as a lubricant or as a brake fluid. Examples e.g. 9 kg of i, 3-butylene glycol are mixed with 6o ccm of n-sulfuric acid and heated to 16o to 17o ° with stirring, water being distilled off together with small amounts of volatile reaction products, mainly unsaturated alcohols and some butadiene. When 96o g of water have passed over, it is made neutral with 6occ n sodium hydroxide solution. Water and unchanged butylene glycol are then distilled out, expediently under reduced pressure. About 40.0; `0 of the butylene glycol used is not undetectable and can be used for the next batch. The reaction product consists of a mixture of polybutylene glycols, which can be separated by fractional expansion in vacuo. In the main (around 7004) dibutylene glycol is probably formed with the following formula: CH3-CH (OH) -CH2-CH2-O-CH2-CH, -CH (OH) -CH3 in addition to smaller amounts of tributylene glycol and higher oxybutyl ethers. Dibutylene glycol is a colorless liquid, miscible with water in any ratio, easily soluble in most organic solvents such as alcohol, ether, acetone, benzene, chloroform and glacial acetic acid, not soluble in petroleum ether with a viscosity of n 2o ° = 179.6 centipoise and the density 0.9903 at 2o °, which does not yet solidify at -3o °. It boils without decomposition at 26o to 265 ° (below 3 mm Hg at 128 to 130 '), the flash point is 1q.2 °.
Polybutylene glycol, as it is obtained according to the above example, is
after treatment with decolorizing charcoal a pale yellowish, strongly viscous neutral one
Liquid that is miscible with water or benzene in any ratio and with
2o ° has a specific gravity of 0.988.
wie in Beispiel 1.2. 2 kg of butylene glycol and an aqueous solution of to g of copper vitriol are heated to 180 to 1950 with stirring. The reaction proceeds similarly to Example 1.
