Die-rolling.-A metal strip 2, Figs. 4, 5, for subsequent division into sliding fastener members is rolled in two directions at right-angles in a single rolling operation to form incisions 5 at the dividing line and to form the recesses 3 and noses 4. The formed strip may be given electrolytic surface treatment and is subsequently punched to form oblong holes 6 producing the legs or prongs of the fastener members at which they are attached to the fastener tapes. The rolls comprise discs 21, Fig. 6, having projecting teeth 23, Fig. 9, to form the incisions 5 in the edges of the strip which is held vertically between side discs 20, 22. The disc 20 has recesses 24 in which the noses 4 of the members are formed in the process of forming the recesses 3 by means of teeth 29 on a disc 25 which engages the strip face through the gaps between teeth 30 in the disc' 22. The rolls are mounted on shafts 9, 10 driven through a pulley 11 and gears 12, 13a, 13b, backlash being prevented by spreading the gears 13a, 13b circumferentially. Intersecting discs 14, 18, 20 on the roll shafts maintain the forming discs 16 in alignment. The disc 25 is mounted for rotation on a horizontal arm 27 adjustable about a vertical pivot (not shown) to bring the disc into position.
