Abstract

752,617. Endless chain conveyers; shoots. TRIGGS, W. W. (Food Machinery & Chemical Corporation). Aug. 30, 1954, No. 25099/54. Class 78 (1). A feed mechanism receives cans from two separate rows and delivers them in timed and spaced relationship in a single row to the spaced pockets of an elevator feeding a continuous cooker. The cans C, Fig. 3, roll down a shoot 25 in two rows on to endless chain conveyers 22, 23 which deliver them into pockets 27 between spaced rods 28 in a timing and spacing reel 29. The cans rest on a curved plate 30 between which and the reel are disposed cam plates 35, 36, Fig. 7, so arranged as to align the cans in single file. The rods 28 push the cans along the plate 30 and deliver them to the pockets 32 of an endless chain elevator 33. A plate 49 divides the shoot into two channels and also separates the conveyers 22, 23. An overhead guide plate 128 in each channel is supported by a looped flat spring 129 which is anchored to a bracket 135 mounted on the shoot. Each conveyer 22 or 23 comprises a series of semicylindrical cups 77 supported by parallel plates 78 which are pivoted to chain links 53. The shaft 63, to which the driving sprocket 55, Fig. 4, of the conveyer 22 is keyed has a hub 66 keyed to one end. This hub has a radial flange 67 provided with diametrically-opposed tapped holes 68 which receive cap screws 74. These screws extend through curved slots 75 in a sprocket 70 which is mounted on the hub. A driving chain 88 passes round the sprocket 70 and the driving sprocket 89 of the elevator 33. The elevator and the conveyer are driven in correct relationship by adjusting the sprocket 70 on the hub 66. The driving sprocket 81 of the conveyer 23 is mounted adjustably on a hub 82 keyed to the shaft 63. The position of this sprocket is adjusted until the cups 77 are in staggered relationship as in Fig. 7. The shaft 63 and the driving shaft 100 of the reel are connected by gears 104, 105, the latter of which is adjustable angularly on the shaft to ensure that the reel rotates in correct timed relation with the conveyers. Overhead guides 148 retain the cans in the cups as they travel around the driving sprockets towards the reel. The reel comprises a cylindrical core 96, a pair of end discs 29 and a series of spaced rods 28.
