Abstract
752,586. Switching systems for vehicle lamps. ETABLISSEMENTS LAUTENBACHER. March 9, 1954 [March 11, 1953; Oct. 28, 1953], No. 6900/54. Class 38 (4). In a control system for vehicle lighting, wherein a manually-operated dashboard switch K allows the selective energization from the battery G of conductors II-IV for feeding, respectively, a flat-top-beam lamp, a fullahead-beam lamp, and the other forwardlydirected lamps, a change-over contactor E, P, F, having an intermediate " off " position and two pairs of operating windings A-D disposed on opposite sides of the contactor and energized over the conductors II-IV, is provided for the purpose of establishing a low resistance supply circuit to the selected flat-top-beam lamp or full-ahead-beam lamp which by-passes the relatively high resistance contacts of the switch K. In the arrangement shown, the switch K is set for energization of the flat-top. beam lamp, resulting in energization of windings A, C, D and consequent movement to the right of an armature which carries contact P and which is normally spring biased to a central " off position. Engagement of contact P with a fixed contact F closes the by-pass circuit, which includes a conductor LS. If switch K is moved to select the full-ahead-beam, coils A, B and C are energized and contact P moves into engagement with fixed contact E to establish a by-pass circuit to conductor III. When the other forwardly directed lamps are selected, only windings A, C are energized so that contact P assumes its off " position and no by-pass circuit is present. The switch K also has an " off " position in which none of the lamps are energized. In other arrangements the contacts E, F are disposed adjacent the opposite ends of a centrally pivoted armature carrying a contact P at each end; alternatively, two separate moving contacts E, F may co-operate with a common fixed contact P, a single spring tending to bias the moving contacts both away from the fixed contact and from one another.
