Abstract
752,139. Railway retarder control systems. METROPOLITAN-VICKERS ELECTRICAL CO., Ltd. March 17, 1955 [May 19, 1954], No. 14725/54. Class 103 (1). In retarder control systems for railway gravity-operated marshalling yards of the kind in which the speed of the wagons is detected by a radar transmitting and receiving horn H by which circuits controlling the application of the retarder bars R are controlled, in order that the radar horn H may not give a false signal by reflection off a wagon which is passing over the points P to a branch track controlled by a different retarder, a section TS of the branch track immediately in advance of the retarder R is made part of a circuit including a track relay TR so that the signal transmitted will only become operative when a wagon is actually in the respective branch track. When the track relay TR and thus the switching relay SR are energized, the output from the integrator Int which is fed from the radar device H is connected through front contact SR1 to the grid of amplifier valve V1. The output from valve V1 controls the grid voltage of cathode coupled valves V2 and V3 in such a.way that when the output potential from the integrator Int is sufficient the grid of the valve V3 takes over conduction and energizes a relay RL which may be used to control application of the retarder R by means not shown.
