Abstract

751,758. Thermo-electric batteries. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES. Dec. 14, 1953 [Dec. 23, 1952], No. 34695/53. Class 53. Thermocouples joined in series are made by winding a metal strip 2 round an insulating frame 1, placing insulating strips 3 over the metal strip where it passes over the frame and winding a second strip or wire 4 continuously round the frame and passing over the strip 2. The wire and strip are then soldered together at the points 35 to form the hot junctions and parts of the wire and strip cut away to leave a series of junctions as shown at 35, 36, Fig. 4, a wire Z being soldered to connect one of the hot junctions to one of the cold junctions. Fig. 5 shows an alternative method in which an insulating frame 6 is held temporarily in a holder 5 round which two wires 7, 15 of different metals are wound in opposite directions and soldered together near their crossing points as shown at 32, 33 and 23, 27. Parts of the wires not required are then cut away leaving a series of couples as shown in the right-hand part of the Figure. In a further modification the frame comprises a number of parallel arms round which a plurality of pairs of wires are wound, the crossing points being soldered together and parts of the wires not required being cut away as in Fig. 5.
