Abstract
751,670 Cleaning firearm barrels. GRANT, V.. D, and PRINCE, C. A. Sept. 17, 1954 [June 29, 1954], No. 19020/54. Class 119 [Also in Group XXVIII] The barrel of a rifle is cleaned by inserting a loosely-fitting, helically-twisted metal strip 13, a helically-fluted rod or a tubular core provided with helical exterior ribs of steel wire, so that a helicoidal motion is imparted to a stream of abrasivecarrying liquid passed through the barrel. whereby abrasive particles are directed outwardly of the stream and obliquely against the internal surface of the barrel by centrifugal force. As shown in Fig. 10, a number of barrels 56 suspended vertically from a rack 57 and above a container 58, are joined together by semi-circular rubber connectors 61 and an abrasivecarrying liquid delivered by a pump 59 through a union 60 is discharged through the last barrel of the series into the container. The barrels are rocked about their axes by a link 63 engaging arms 64 clamped upon the barrels and attached to a crank 65 on a slowly-revolving, vertical shaft 66 driven from the pump spindle through worm reduction gearing 67.
