Abstract

751,036. Cables. KAISER ALUMINIUM & CHEMICAL CORPORATION. March 30, 1954, No. 9321/54. Class 36. A cable comprises a high tensile strength core 1, formed from a plurality of helically wound wire strands, one or more layers 2 of fibrous filler material, a thermoplastic resinous protective jacket 3 which materially increases the diameter of the cable and seals the layers 2 from the outer atmosphere, and one or more layers 6 of highly conductive wires. The filler material may comprise tightly and helically wound hard paper ropes, alternate layers being wound with opposite lays. An aluminium or paper tape 4 or fibre glass threads may be applied over the filler material to hold it in place. The jacket 3 may be of polythene and may be applied by extrusion or as a helical lapping, the overlapping parts of which are bonded together.
