Abstract
750,932. Machine-tool details; shearing. RHEINISCHE ROHRENWERKE AKT.- GES. Nov. 26, 1953 [July 27, 1953], No. 32868/53. Classes 83 (3) and 83 (4). Apparatus for comminuting swarf formed when cutting screw-threads with a single-point tool 2, Fig. 1, on work 9, comprises a stationary blade 5 secured to the tool-slide 1 and formed with a passage 6 for the swarf discharged from the tool, and a rotating blade 4 on the slide and driven past the blade 5, e.g. by an electric or compressed air motor, to cut the swarf into short lengths and throw them into a container. A recess 7 in the slide receives the swarf, and the blade 4, which has two arms, is fixed to a shaft 3 3 supported in the slide by ball-bearings. In another arrangement, for cutting internal screw-threads,-the stationary blade 14, Fig. 4, has an arcuate passage 15 to turn the swarf through 90 degrees before cutting by the rotating blade 13 at the end of boring-bar 11. The cutting-edges of the rotating and stationary blades and the tool 2 are tipped with hard metal. When a compressed air motor is used, the exhaust may be applied to cooling the tip of tool 2.
