Abstract

750,509. Apparatus for flowering brush bristles. LAFOND, R. July 10, 1953, No. 19214/53. Class 19 A process for pointing and flowering of synthetic bristles comprises the steps of first slitting longitudinally the end of the bristles to form a number of elements which are then sharpened and flowered. In Fig. 1 the bristles before or after assembly into the brush are passed across a series of splitting elements b (shown in greater detail in Fig. 4) to split the ends as shown in Fig. 2. They are then passed across a drum on which is wound a wire mesh brush strip d whereby the ends are flowered and pointed. A cord e protects the bristles in the event of excessive pressure being applied. The bristles may first be passed across the wire brush to sharpen their ends.
